EVALUATION

1: In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?  : it follows the conventions by  using suspense  to create tension   along with the creepy music  which  further  conveys  how my thriller follows the conventions of real media products. As how it challenges forms and or develops my thriller develops as it goes along building up to the climax at the end. It challenges forms by the having the main storyline of the thriller almost lapsing a lesser storyline.
2: What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why? : What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?
Probably in a movie theatre of maybe it would be a straight to DVD release
There are many types of distribution: broadcasting, physical sale through cd’s and DVD’s   with the use of companies such as:
·         pathe ( 127 hours , slumdog millionaire , the queen )  ,
·         icon ( nowhere boy  , looking for Eric  , let me in , buried )   and lionsgate ( the expendables ,   the saw saga  ,  the mechanic )   ,
·         Miramax ( cold mountain , trainspotting  , gangs of new York , scary movie quadrilogy ,  bad Santa , pulp fiction , the hellraiser  series   , sin city , kill bill  & kill bill 2 )
·         Film 4 ( Tokyo sonata ,  bunny and the bull , the lovely bones , this is England , Hallam foe, east is east , a complete history of my sexual failures  )
·         I think is the film was on at a cinema it would be on at a mainstream cinema , I think because it’s not a specialist project  and is just you typical  run of the mill thriller that’s  always been shown at the cinema, it’s to generalised  to be shown at an art house  because art houses usually show you know art and specialised movies that  would  be watched at film festivals  , them kind of films are very high brow
·         I think the film could  be digitally distributed via sites like youtube and itunes , I guess the pros  from that would be everyone could see it  therefore   if it became successful we would be able to make copies  and sell them and make a profit  a  con of this is that it wouldn’t be viewed by anyone  and  would  be a waste of time making the film
·         I think that compared to a professional film and even some amateur films it has a long way to go till it’s a masterpiece
3: Who would be the audience for your media product? : The target audience of this thriller would be men & women between 15 and 35. This is shown in our data
4: How did you attract/ address your audience? : We introduced a female male character which is typical of horror/ thriller films, we also did this to attract males because our actress was attractive also females could relate to the female main character.
5: What have you learned about technologies from the process of constructing this product? : I have learnt how to use premier pro to the best of my ability to compile my thriller I have also gained knowledge of how to properly operate a camera and how to use all of the features it .
6: Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learned in the progression from it to the full product?:  I feel  that  I have progressed on my camera skills , in particular my  use of camera angles and shots  also  I can now use a range  of analytical to my calibre ,.

Film Classiffication

Film Classification
Film classification is a guideline to how films are rated and what age the film should be rated at:

 UNIVERSAL ( U)Suitable for all

It is impossible to predict what might upset any particular child. But a ‘U’ film should be suitable for audiences aged four years and over. ‘U’ films should be set within a positive moral framework and should offer reassuring counterbalances to any violence, threat or horror.
PARENTAL GUIDENCE ( PG)
General viewing, but some scenes may be unsuitable for young children
Unaccompanied children of any age may watch. A ‘PG’ film should not disturb a child aged around eight or older. However, parents are advised to consider whether the content may upset younger or more sensitive children.

12: Suitable for 12 years and over

Exactly the same criteria are used to classify works at ‘12A’ and ‘12’. These categories are awarded where the material is suitable, in general, only for those aged 12 and over. Works classified at these categories may upset children under 12 or contain material which many parents will find unsuitable for them.

15: Suitable only for 15 years and over

No one younger than 15 may see a ‘15’ film in a cinema. No one younger than 15 may rent or buy a ‘15’ rated video work.

18: Suitable only for adults

No-one younger than 18 may see an ‘18’ film in a cinema.
No-one younger than 18 may rent or buy an ‘18’ rated video.
In line with the consistent findings of the BBFC’s public consultations and The Human Rights Act 1998, at ‘18’ the BBFC’s guideline concerns will not normally override the principle that adults should be free to choose their own entertainment. Exceptions are most likely in the following areas:
  • where the material is in breach of the criminal law, or has been created through the commission of a criminal offence
  • Where material or treatment appears to the BBFC to risk harm to individuals or, through their behaviour, to society – for example, any detailed portrayal of violent or dangerous acts, or of illegal drug use, which may cause harm to public health or morals. This may include portrayals of sexual or sexualised violence which might, for example, eroticise or endorse sexual assault
  • Where there are more explicit images of sexual activity which cannot be justified by context. Such images may be appropriate in ‘R18’ works, and in ‘sex works’ (see below) would normally be confined to that category.
In the case of video works (including video games), which may be more accessible to younger viewers, intervention may be more frequent than for cinema films.
My film  classification  is 15 because I feel it is not appropriate for a person under that age also it isn’t quite  an 18 because it doesn’t show  strong bloody violence or threat  nor  does  it have sexual content , the reason I rate the film as a 15 is because   it shows minor threat  , and it’s full of suspense which I feel a person under  the age of 15 couldn’t comprehend

ideas

Here is a few of our original ideas for the thriller before we came up with the chosen idea.
Voodoo
Starts of with a man sat blindfolded in a chair
He doesn't know where he is or why he's there
We then see a shadowy figure of a man or possibly a woman holding a voodoo doll
Then we see six voodoo dolls all lined up in a row
We then come back to the man in the chair who at this point is freaking out
He is rocking about on the chair whilst the shadowy figure begins to torture him
 Using the doll.
The figure goes into a different room and we see pictures 7 pictures on the wall.
The figure then paints a red cross over the picture of the man in the other room.
The figure begins plotting the next murder.
This was set in the attic of an abandoned house.

 Duality
Duality is about a schizophrenic detective following a lead on a string of conspicuous murders and trying to find a sociopath murderer.
Unknown to him he is the murderer and he is left with a moral dilemma
Hand himself in and destroy his career or find help.

Toxica
Toxica is about a girl who survived a chemical outbreak and became infected and has become a fugitive of the law. Unknown to the girl she cannot come into contact with human skin because she will infect and kill anyone who touches her.
 Fire water burn

character outline and shooting script

character outline for the host

Angel Mann
Angel is an ordinary 21 year old woman who works at her local supermarket and has been working there part time from the past 6 months. She used to attend university, however dropped out of it, due to a murder which took place to her room mate. The death affected Angel due to such a horrific death, resulting in her departure from the university, as she was temporarily accused of the murder. She met her boyfriend Matt when she was 18 at college where they studied similar subjects and gained a strong connection with each other.
However, Angel is a descendant from a long line of women that are used as hosts by evil spirits called the Unknown, causing pain and misery where ever the host is. The Unknown make there presence known by turning dreams into reality. Unaware of her dependency, death occurs around her, she is forced to believe she needs psychiatric help and her own family turns her back on her. Angel then seeks guidance in the form of old friend reverend Jeremy Thomas who aids her through the dark times that lie ahead.

Matt Remus
Matt is angel’s boyfriend of 3 years, where they met at college. Matt has always shown his love to her and recently planned to propose to his girlfriend, as he wishes to be part of her life for the rest of theirs. They met when Matt was 19 an have been in love ever since, despite increasing concerns about the way Angle has had graphic dreams since the death of her room mate at university. Matt still lives in his parents house, but has plans to buy an apartment for both himself and Angel to live in.
Matt knew that Angel had nothing to do with the death of her room mate and is worried about the way she still has been hit hard with the whole event. What Matt doesn’t know, is that the dreams and the death of her room mate are all signs of the Unknown, growing in power to make her dreams become reality. However what Matt also doesn’t know, that his demise is about to come as Angel has a graphic dream about Matt’s death. Although his death will be more important that he realises.

Reverand Jeremy Thomas
Jeremy Thomas is the local priest and has been a priest for as long as the locals can remember. He is also a family friend to Angel for as long as she can remember too. He is a well respected man however, is a rather quiet and a shy man, as he is only ever seen at the church and rarely seen outside of it. He is fully committed to church life but is a very secretive man about his past and his age, which is becoming a key topic at church as he has been at the church for so long and has rarely seemed to age.
He however has been charged with the duty to watch over angel’s family and protect her against the Unknown as he is one of few people that are destined to protect the host; Angel being one of them. Reverend Thomas has watched over generations of Angel’s family bloodline and will continue to serve them until the Unknown are no more. Which does mean, until the day the host can regain control of an Unknown.

                                                Shooting Script

Shot 1
The opening Credits. Industrial music I would describe as a very strange symphony. Horror text will appear introducing both Rebecca Walker and Mike Arnold the actors who are playing Angel and Matt.

Shot 2
The camera pans down in a forest, from near top of trees to near bottom of trees.

Shot 3
The camera continues to pan down until behind Angels head. From the back of her head you can tell she has scruffy hair, this should hopefully add to the mystery of why she is in the forest.

Shot 5
The camera pans around her face. Whilst she is walking through a forest the camera is positioned for a side on view of her face.
